New Delhi: The Indian Railways has announced a major Group D recruitment drive for 2025, opening the door for tens of thousands of candidates to secure a government job with a monthly pay of around Rs 25,000. The announcement comes after approval from the Railway Ministry and aims to strengthen the operational workforce across the country.

What Jobs Are Being Offered?

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) will fill over 22,000 Group D (Level-1) posts, including roles such as track maintainers, assistants in various departments, pointsmen and other support staff. These are entry-level positions suited for candidates who meet basic educational requirements.

Who Can Apply and What Are the Rules?

Eligibility is simple: candidates must have passed Class 10 or hold a recognised National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC). The minimum age is 18 years, and the upper age limit is generally 36, with relaxations for reserved categories under government rules.

The application fee for candidates from the General, OBC, and EWS categories is Rs 500, while SC, ST, EBC, women, and transgender categories candidates are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs 250.

How Much Do Selected Candidates Earn?

Selected candidates will be placed in Level 1 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix. The salary structure includes a basic pay of around Rs 18,000 plus allowances. With additional benefits and perks, many employees take home about Rs 22,500 to Rs 25,380 per month.

What Is the Selection Process?

The recruitment involves several stages. Candidates first sit for a Computer-Based Test (CBT). It will consist of 100 questions carrying 100 marks. The paper will cover General Science, Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness and Current Affairs. Each question will carry one mark.

Those who qualify for CBT must pass a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). After that comes document verification and a medical examination before final selection.

When Can You Apply?

The official notification was released and the application process is expected to begin in the last week of December or the first week of January. Interested candidates will be able to apply online through the official Railway Recruitment Board portal at rrbapply.gov.in. An official notification with exact dates is expected soon.
